This course is suitable for non-clinical staff working in primary care settings, including GP receptionists, administrators and other healthcare staff who may be required to act as a chaperone during consultations or examinations.

The online learning module has been developed to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding required to undertake the role of a chaperone safely, professionally and in accordance with current best practice. The course reflects guidance from the General Medical Council (GMC), the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), the Medical Defence Union (MDU), the Medical Protection Society (MPS), the NHS and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Learners will develop an understanding of the purpose of chaperoning, when a chaperone should be offered, the responsibilities of the chaperone, patient rights, effective communication and the importance of accurate documentation.
