Allergy Awareness & Emergency Response (AAER) for Schools (Benedict’s Law) In-Person Training for Organisations in Cornwall
A one & a half hour in-person group training course comprehensive course designed for all school staff, who are required to undertake training in line with Benedict’s Law, effective in schools from September 2026.
Due to our location, we can only offer In-Person training to Organisations in Cornwall. However, we offer fully online courses in Allergy & Anaphylaxis Awareness for Schools anywhere in the UK - see details here
The course includes practical and theoretical training and, on successful completion, trainees receive a certificate as evidence that they have passed the course. This certificate is valid for 1 year.
We automatically include practical and written assessment of trainee skills, however you do have the option not to complete the assessment, if you prefer, as it is not a legal requirement.
This course is accredited by the FAIB (First Aid Industry Body).
In-Person Group Training
This in-person course is to enable school staff to recognise and respond appropriately to allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, within educational settings. It supports schools in meeting current national guidance and strengthened allergy safety expectations linked to Benedict’s Law.
Ordering In-Person Training
Your organisation must be based in Cornwall. Unfortunately, due to our location, we are not able to offer courses outside of Cornwall as the travel and accommodation costs would make the course unaffordable.

For Staff That Can’t Attend: It is unrealistic that every member of staff will be available on the day of the training. Also you may have new staff join during the course of the year. For these staff we suggest our Online Allergy & Anaphylaxis Awareness for Schools which will allow them to be trained at their own convenience in line with current legal requirements.
1.5 hour group training at your premises for £295 +VAT per group. This course is only available to organisations in Cornwall
There is no upper limit to the group size we can train. However, please allow extra time if more than 30 people attend to ensure all trainees demonstrate their practical skills. We suggest allowing one extra minute per trainee over the 30 trainee group size.
To help you fit your training around your school day we offer 4 time slots to pick from. Training can be booked for any 1.5 hours within each time slot:
Morning - 9am to 11:30am
Early Afternoon - 12:30pm to 3pm
Late Afternoon - 3:30pm to 6pm
Evening - 6:30pm to 9pm
The aim of this In-Person training course is to enable school staff to recognise and respond appropriately to allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, within educational settings. It supports schools in meeting current national guidance and strengthened allergy safety expectations linked to Benedict’s Law.
The course includes demonstrations and practice in the correct use of adrenaline medication (including practice in adrenaline auto-injectors and demonstrations in the EURneffy® nasal spray), as well as how to position a casualty during an anaphylactic emergency.
Assessment of the trainees is conducted through both practical skills and a short multiple-choice exam. By passing the exam trainees are awarded a certificate stating they passed the course. If trainees are unable to pass, or choose not to undertake assessment, are awarded a certificate stating they attended the course. There is no legal requirement to pass the course, only that trainees must attend the course.
Description
To understand allergy, the conditions it includes and how allergic reactions occur
Understand what an allergy is and the risks it poses
Understand that allergy includes multiple conditions (food allergy, asthma, eczema, hay fever)
Understand the difference between food allergy, coeliac disease and food intolerance
Identify common allergy triggers, including the 14 regulated food allergens and know where to find information on them
To understand allergy safety responsibilities in the school in relation to Benedict's Law
Understand what Benedict's Law is and the statutory guidance which schools need to adhere to
Understand staff responsibilities in reducing the risk of exposure, including on school trips
Understand how to report an allergic reaction, case of anaphylaxis or 'near miss'
Understand the impact allergy can have on wellbeing, including allergy-related bullying
Understand how to use allergy/asthma action plans and individual healthcare plans
To be able to recognise allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
Identify the range of symptoms of a mild to moderate allergic reaction
Recognise the signs of anaphylaxis using the airway/breathing/circulation (ABC) approach
Understand how rapidly anaphylaxis can develop and the link between food allergy and asthma
To be able to respond to an allergic reaction and anaphylaxis emergency
4.1 Understand how to respond to a mild to moderate allergic reaction
4.2 Understanding the importance of knowing how to locate emergency medication, including spare devices
4.3 Understand the correct positioning of a casualty and the use of an AAI device and understand how to
administer a prescribed nasal adrenaline device

4.4 Recognise an acute asthma attack and understand how to assist with a reliever/MART inhaler
and spacer, if required
