2) How to choose my training days? Can I spread them out over several weeks or more than 2 days?
The First Aid at Work Requalification course takes a minimum of 2 days to complete with a required minimum of 12 hours training time, not including breaks. A standard training day is 9:30am to 5:00pm.
It is most common for companies to select 2 consecutive days to keep the training fresh in peoples minds ready for the exam at the end. However, for operational reasons when staff are available, you may prefer the same day on 2 consecutive weeks (e.g. 2 Mondays in a row).
Alternatively, training could be split down even further to half days if necessary, or some other combination. We do not recommend splitting down the training into too many days but HSE guidelines allow it to be taught in a minimum of 2 hour blocks to achieve the 12 hour total.
Please note; If you spread the training over more than the usual 2 days, understandably, we will charge expenses for each additional trip. This is charged at 45p per mile to and from your training venue, starting from postcode TR14 0HW.
3) What is a suitable training room/venue?
Your training room should be a comfortable temperature and quiet enough to hear the instructor. It should have enough space for the number of trainees with table/desk space for everyone for the exam at the end.
There will also need to be room for people to practice/demonstrate their first aid skills which includes space for trainees to lie down flat on the ground. This can be in a different nearby space if necessary.
We can supply the projector and screen for the presentation if you don’t have one, or we have difficulty connecting with your system.
4) Selecting a Main Industry
We tailor our courses to your specific company’s operations. This includes adding extra emphasis on the injuries and situations most likely to arise. We also reinforce any of your particular company policies within our training, such as policies on accounting for dressings for the food industry, illnesses where employees should avoid work or how to help a member of the public within your own limits of responsibility.
Most industries cover more than one sector. For example; in Food Manufacturing you will also have Warehousing, Distribution and probably Mechanical Engineering.
For the purposes of this question please indicate only the main activities of your staff by selecting one or two industries from the list.
We will then get back in touch with you to find out more detail using the selected industry/industries to direct our questions. Where suitable, we can arrange a free visit to your premises prior to your training course to better understand specific risks in your work environment, and to check on any policies you have in place that we can reiterate during the training.
